What Are Utility Trailers Used For?

Before purchasing a utility trailer, ask yourself what you’ll use it for. Do you need a higher payload for hauling large equipment and machinery? Or do you need more space for hauling landscaping materials or household items?

You should also consider the quality of the trailer as some are built to last with easily replaceable and repairable parts. Each of our trailers comes with a minimum 1-year manufacturer warranty. If a problem arises, contact us to file a warranty claim and we’ll perform the repair onsite.

Sizes & Options

Once you have determined your purpose, it’s time to find the right size and options for your trailer. Utility trailers come in various lengths and widths, with some offering mesh or solid sides for taller items.

Additionally, you can choose from different options, such as spring assist ramps, split mesh gates, spare tire mounts, and tie-downs. It’s important to carefully assess your needs and choose the right size and options to ensure efficient and safe hauling.

Picking the Right Size

The ideal size of your utility trailer should accommodate your desired load while still being manageable to tow. We recommend leaving a little extra space in case your hauling needs change in the future.

You can also consider the weight capacity or gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the trailer. This is the total weight that a fully loaded trailer can safely handle. The payload capacity is the additional weight that the trailer can haul on top of the weight of the trailer. Check the GVWR and payload capacity and compare those to your expected cargo weight before purchasing.

Single or Double-Axle

The axles support the weight of the trailer and its cargo. Single-axle trailers have one set of wheels and typically do not have brakes. Double-axle trailers have two sets of wheels with brakes.

Single-axle trailers are more affordable and are easier to maneuver, but they may not be appropriate for heavier loads. Double-axle trailers offer better weight distribution and stability, making them a safer option for larger loads. Determining which best suits your needs will depend on the weight and size of the load you plan to haul.
